Herrcastle Farm is located in rural Southern Lancaster County-Holtwood PA and is owned by Ed and Judy Herrmann since 1985.  Initially we were a hog enterprise farrowing 80-sows producing feeder pigs until the hog industry consolidated and became vertically integrated.  We exited the hog business in 1999.
In 1986 we began venturing into tomato and bell pepper production for wholesale markets. In the same year we planted our first apple and peach orchard which began our transition from livestock towards fruit and vegetable production.

We began marketing directly to the customer by participating in farmers markets since 1994.  We began marketing locally then progressively expanded into Washington DC and Philadelphia area farmers markets.

In 2000 we began selling our first CSA shares in the Philadelphia area.  This year (2010) will be our 12th year offering a “subscription” Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program. Recently, Herrcastle Farm became a limited Liability Corporation (LLC).  This status change will help enable our son Matthew to become more involved in the management and marketing of our family business.

We are a sustainable farming enterprise using a combination of natural, organic, and conventional farming practices.  Our main emphasis in production is through the application of integrated pest management (IPM) techniques.  We produce the safest and highest quality fruit and vegetables with a major emphasis towards protecting our environment, thus safeguarding human health and improving soil fertility.  Our improved crop production management strategies enhance fruit and vegetable quality as we stay current with all the latest technology trends to improve value and food safety
